GARAGE FIND SURVIVOR
This ’68 GTO was bought new in Douglasville, GA on 4/18/68. It was sold again in 1983, and that owner put about 50,000 miles on it by 1994 when he became to ill to maintain and drive it. The last tag registration was in ’94, so it appears to have been sitting in his garage in the same spot for the past fourteen years.
Unfortunately the owner passed away recently, which led his brother-in-law, who knew I was in the Southeastern GTO club, to call me about the car. The family wanted to sell it and get it removed from the garage so they could get the house ready to sell.
The car turned out to be a mostly original 4-speed with the WS block HO engine. It will need a lot of restoration inside and out, but is has the original paint with very little rust. The vinyl top had been stripped off, but all the stainless trim is there to replace the top.
I purchased the car and plan to show it a few times as a survivor before beginning any restoration work on it.
